Arthroscopic Surgery
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Arthroscopy is one of the most common minimally invasive orthopedic surgeries performed. The procedure allows both diagnosis and treatment of joint abnormalities.
Through a single small incision, our doctors insert a tiny camera (arthroscope) into the joint, which displays an image on a video monitor. The surgeon can examine and evaluate the joint, and, in many cases, fix the problem at the same time. If treatment can be done during an arthroscopy, the doctor will make a second small incision to insert the surgical instruments used to remove or stitch together damaged tissue.
Arthroscopic surgery is a highly versatile procedure. The skilled orthopedic surgeons at Orthopedic Associates of West Jersey can treat a number of conditions via arthroscopy, including:
- Knee problems, such as meniscal tears, ligament tears, and injuries to articular cartilage
- Shoulder issues, including tendonitis (shoulder impingement), bursitis, severe sprains, and rotator cuff tears
Arthroscopic procedures are often the type of treatment selected by patients and doctors for the promise of less pain, a faster recovery, and little scarring.
